    Dear Support Team Members,

i got a problem with the nagios web interface. In our company, we use nagios to control a lot of servers. Now i’d like to see, if there are any warnings or alerts. For our windows servers, there are warnings with status information which ware clearly readable, e.g ‘WARNING: Only 5.78G (14%) free on ***’. But in the status information column for our linux servers there are only ‘@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@…’ and no readable text.
To control the check commands i prompted them manually in the command line of the nagios server and there it checked the controled hard disk correctly and showed a clearly readable result. I can’t find a reason, why there is a fine result in the command line but not in the web surface. I’d be very happy if you could help me with this problem. Thank you for your effort.

    Sincerely yours, Erik Grunwald

Start by checking that the plugin runs correctly locally as user nagios. Now run it through the agent and check the output. If you are running nrpe, you will want to check the system messages for any errors. My suggestion would be to ask this on the support forums at: http://support.nagios.com/forum/ as a forum thread is better suited for question/response troubleshooting.

    Dear Support Team,

I have a problem with check_ntp plugin. Last 2 weeks I am getting ntp alarms from some of hosts. I have checked NTP server and did not see any problem with this server. So that I have written a basic script which is going to take ntpq -p output and write it in a text file.

Yesterday I have been informed again NTP problem via Nagios but there were not time difference according to the ntpq -p output.

Here is Nagios Alarm that I have received at 15:55

    Notification Type: PROBLEM
    Service Name: NTP Check
    Service Group: $

    Service State: CRITICAL
Service Data: NTP CRITICAL: Offset -4.772241 secs

    Here is script output.

So question is why there is so big difference between Nagios measurement and direct ntpq –p check? Can you please provide a detailed description of Nagios NTP check mechanism?
