[Nagiosplug-help] check_load value ?

Hello,

	I am setting up the nrpe plugin to check system load on remote systems. But I
am not sure as to what value's to use for system load ? There are defaults
provide for load averages for the past 1, 5, and 15 minutes at 

check_load -w 15,10,5 -c 30,25,2

But what I do not understand is what is the max value ? If 30 is critical would
15 not be around 50% meaning the box is 50% idle ?

If there is some documentation on system load please point me to it.
