[Nagiosplug-help] check_by_ssh help

I am setting up a new installation and things seem to be going pretty well, except for one problem.  I am using the check_by_ssh plug-in to check services on a remote system.  The remote checks return an OK status and an exit code of 0, as does the check_by_ssh plug-in, but it is showing up as an "unknown" status.  Does the exit code need to be different?  I thought the exit codes were 0 for OK, 1 for warning, and 2 for critical.  Any input?
