i believe his problem is he's trying to use a plugin that runs apt-get
(a debian program) on hp-ux, which has no such program.  so when
./configure runs, it doesn't detect apt-get, but for some reason
the plugin got built anyway, and he's now trying to run it
and PATH_TO_APT_GET (or whatever the #define is) is probably equal to
the empty string, hence his rather strange error.

this might also be the cause  of the wierdness with teh check_smb
plugin output mentioned earlier.
